The weekend in Derrynane Dunes Natural Park

This week end has been quite excited because we have managed to do lot of things.
The Saturday morning we got up very early. While we were waiting to get out of the house Ben and Myself got quite bored so we decided to give a new shape to the couch in the kitchen...we loved to bits but our humans didn´t seem very impress with our piece of art...

It is so tasty....!!!
That morning we didn´t go running as a normal day, instead we went to the beach.

It was nearly 9 o´clock in the morning and the weather was dry so the light there was very impressive and Eva took as many pictures as she could,

Saturday Morning

We  tried to play with the seagulls that morning but  they looked very offended, I don't really know why...

They were waiting for us.....

Thinking the plan

I am going to talk to the seagulls

I am very sad as the seagull don't want to talk

After the lovely time in the beach that day we had a surprise at home!....We were told to get in the car and we went away.
The spin was a little bit to much nearly 3 hours in the car but it was worthy.

We walked for 12 kilometers in a loop along the coast and mountains of caheldaniel, close to Sneem in the ring of kerry.

The landscape was lovely and we enjoyed a lot over there and I nearly managed to hunt a hen and a duck for diner but as usual when I am doing something fun I was told off...

We have uploaded some pics for you because sometime one image can talk more than 1000 words...

The begining...

We just claimed the mountain

Peter and Eva were destroyed when we finished the walk so they didn´t want to chase any birdies more and we have to come back home.

The drive back was awful because Peter wanted to get there as soon as possible and he was driving very fast most of the time and as well as that, they left us in the car for nearly an hour while they were eating in a lovely restaurant.

We slept well that night and Sunday morning we went to the beach again for about one hour.

Saying hello to the seagulls..
Teaching Ben how to swim.
Later on that day we went to see our cousin Morse who live with Peter´s parents. We love him because he is very gentle and patience when we play with his toys..I will post his picture some time because he is very handsome too..!!! :)

Here we go...!!!

New Video for rainy days

As I promissed this is the second video that my humans taped on the 9th. It was an horrible day because it was raining all day long.
While Eva and Ben were doing their stupid tricks I was taken care of myself chewing a lovely bone...but dont get confussed I know all that tricks already and they will recording me  soon to show you what a such clever girl I am.

I have been in the hospital for the last two days.

Hello,
Sorry for no having updated you for the last couple of days but I was very sickie and I could n´t even set a paw on the keyboard...

Everything started on Friday when I didnt feel like getting up for the morning walk, even although now Eva has brought us to the back of the farm where there is loads of rabits...

Back field

We couldn´t go before because the cattle was there. Now that the winter is coming we have plenty space to play in.

But anyway, Even I wasn´t feelling  great that morning, we went out there early, just to keep chasing rabbits (if you let them  breed and grow up, they will be a plague... so my job is keep them under control ;) ).
I complained a couple of times while we were walking because I had a funny pain in my belly but as I dont like to complain too much,( that is for babies like Ben), I keep the pace of the pack till later on that evening I couldn´t move at all with pains all over my body.

Saturday morning was a nightmare for me shivering with fever and pain and a running nose, Eva rushed me to the Vet and we were lucky enough to have Mary on call that morning, She is the vet who was with me the first time I had a seizure like this.

She said to Eva that would be better to keep me there for the day just to keep an eye on me as I was given antibiotics and  anty-inflammatory drugs.
The day went by and I started to feel better so Sunday Morning I was released to go home.
Sending Ben to check first
Telling him how to improve his method

Show him how to do it.
The only good thing about all this experience is that when you come back home every one let you do what ever you want and even Ben stopped bitten my ears for once.

Later that night I heard Eva saying to Peter that we are a pack indeed, and if one of us is not at home with the rest he/she is missed very very much for the rest, so we need to be all of us together.

Today is Tuesday and we haven't been at the beach since last Thursday with this awful weather and everything else but hopefully today or tomorrow we will start again our routine of walks and swims at the sea side.

P.S Ben has learn new tricks and our humans pack taped them in a new video.
I have challenged Ben learning as fast as him and performing even better than him so, I have asked Eva to tape me to show you how good I am.

Here is Ben!

It looks like I am just jumping around from one history to the next one, but I have never been a systematic dog and I always try to get the pleasures of life doing my will at every moment so, here we go, It is time to introduce Ben.

It was beginning of April to be precise the 11th of April and we were walking close to our house in very early hours in the morning.

At this stage of my life I was passing through the worst moment in my adolescence period (I was 9 month old) and Eva had already given up trying to teach me some manners after being spelled from puppy curse (I will relate this later on) so the only way for me to stay calm and don´t destroy the house, was exercising  as much as possible (we  had started running in the mornings).
That day we had run for nearly 1 hour and Peter had joined us with the bicycle  for the last bit on the way back home.

As usual, I was pulling mad on the leash and Peter was holding me tight when suddenly I got an essence coming from the bushes ahead...Of course as good Springer I went to investigate who was hidden in those bushes when up at the top I saw a little head leaning through the vegetation!

Peter screamed and pointed at the head telling Eva there was a little puppy hidden in the bushes. Of course all we know that She can´t resist when the issue is little puppies so after the moment of surprise she pulled the puppy from the bushes by the tail.
She checked the doggy and told Peter it was a male and about a few weeks old, someone should have abandoned the dog there to die of starvation.

They started to discuss about what to do with him either bring him to the dog shelter or keep him.
Guess what happened?

Ben the day we found him.

We didn´t know where he had come from or the breed he was (We still don´t know :) )only that was the cutest puppy ever.

Playing with me

Ben first day in Vesta´s bed

Measuring his size with a pig ear

It was tough for me because he got all the attention and toys regardless I was here first.

I can describe him like a cocky doggy with loads of character and very smart (at least it is what every one says..) but I know as a fact that behind the cocky pup there is a very fearful buddy which has been treated very bad in his short life.

There are a couple of things remarkable about him. One is that he can spend the day barking out of nothing  and the other one is how sharp are his teeth when they are pulling my ears (he drives me mad when he does that...) I suppose it is, his Terrier side.

But if there is something he likes the most is this:

I need to talk to some one about the last weekend.

know that I was telling  you the story of my life but today I feel talking about what happened to me and my pack during the weekend.

I have to start saying that on Friday my pack leader "Eva" didn't feel so well at work so she came back earlier than normal and set us free for most of the day.
I thought that was the coolest way to begin  the week end so I enjoyed my freedom... (I was messing around with Ben without any supervision as she was in bed with a very bad headache....:))

I suppose the bad bit started when she didn't even get up to give us our super so the cool way to start the weekend vanished very soon...

Going for a "cold down swim"
Saturday was a little bit brighter for Ben and Me because we went to the beach ( Harbour view ) and we spent a good few hours there...Oh man !!, I love chasing those big birds, the big ones, the small ones, there are so many  types and sizes that some times I have some difficulty on focusing in only one at the time and I get all confused....chasing one and barking at the rest (I am a female, so that´s why I can do more one thing at the same time...;))
The tide is up!!!

I have to caught them, I have to...!!!!

After all the running and swimming we headed home where I was washed and groomed... And is at that point when I got suspicious as  it is very unusual for me to get groomed at the weekend because most of the time we are doing some outdoors activity.

Half and hour later, I found out why!!! We were going to the vet, I was due for my yearly vaccine! I hate the vet I can help it. It brings me very bad memories!

The last time I was there it was for nearly three days because of my passion for eating sticks...and even although I was very young I am still remembering the smells, the screeching  of the other dogs and the two nights I had to share the room with two cats...Unbelievable!!!

Anyway, After I got the vaccine ( I heard something like..." Vesta is  behaving very well so far"...) Eva asked to the vet why my "tits"(very rude of her, by the way) were still swollen if my last season was in May.
I couldn't believe what I just heard...!!! Doesn't she know that I am expecting babies? But the most extraordinary thing is when the vet told her that I had a sickie called it something like "false pregnancy"????

He said that my hormones should calm down within a month or so, otherwise  I should come back for a chat.... I was in  shock!! How do they dare  to say I am not pregnant!!!

That evening was a long one at home thinking to myself about the conversation in the Vet´s and convincing myself that they were right death as Ben was way too small at the time to father my pups...

Ben and Myself during my first season. He is wearing his coat to impress me.

On the Sunday after, the rain came lashing down, but in spite of the weather, we went for a stroll to Inchydoney beach (very cool beach, you can learn how to surf and wind surf there, loads of tourist and holiday makers..).

                                                                       Inchydoney Beach, Clonakilty

Since the rain had stopped there and there were few people in the beach Eva took advantage of the situation (and that the battery of the camera was charged, she always forget to plug it) and asked Peter (Our other pack member) to tape us while we were training...well I have to say that I can understand how Ben loves so much that stupid trick training I prefer running free and enjoy the wind in my ears...

Are you able to see me in the video running around trying to have your attention?

Some times I feel really jealous of Ben because the rest of the pack spend lots of time with him thinking that he is very cute when he is performing his tricks but seriously I can not see the fun of it!.

When we were nearly finished with the walk, I saw a little boy running free (as I like to do) so I thought it would be funny to run along side with him. Unfortunately he didn't seem to enjoy as much as I did because he started to cry and scream and her mother didn't look very happy either.

Some times I can´t really understand these humans! I didn´t even touch the child and he was screaming for his life and the only thing I was thinking of, was to have a bit more of fun!

But that morning later on we had another incident and that time were the humans the ones implicated. They nearly ended up in the Garda Station!!! :0.

My new home.

We got there by  one of those machines with wheels that humans use for moving around (like if they didn't have two legs...puff!!!..) I think they call them "car machines". I had already traveled in one of them when we had a family trip to the beach and I was´t very impressed.
With mummy learning sea sports
Our bed was a Bear, Cool, eh?
But anyway, once we got home the first thing I saw was a lovely bed all for myself, (before I had to share the bed with all of my siblings and was a little crowed there).

Me in my new brand bed with all my new toys

I love speed...

After my vaccination and for a couple of weeks life went on as normal...

My favorite toy...fluffy stuffing...

I love sticks too...Yummy!!!

The time went by and I didn´t realize being busy as I was, growing up, poppy classes...etc....

A brief note about myself.

Hi there,

My name is Vesta and I am a girl springer spaniel dog and  I am one and 3 months old,  although, nearly four now!
I was born in  Aghyohill a tiny village in west cork, Ireland, and mum gave birth to six girls and one boy on the 24th of June 2009.

We were happy there playing with the flowers, having lots of sun bathing (always weather permitting...) and sometimes even fights with my sibling Magy (she was kind of a big-headed herself and never gave up bothering me with those beautiful black spots in her coat....but eventually I managed to boss everyone around me).

Magy and Me sun bathing

All of us in the afternoon siesta.

Supervising the troupe...
I was flying out ruling my heavenly kingdom till the day that two humans knocked at the door on the 15th of August...They showed me lovely toys luring me towards the door and calling me a weird name "Vesta come on", "come on home"...
Later on I learnt that my human stepmother is a kind of freaky of the History and therefore of the classic Roman history, so she chose the name of the the virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and family of the Roman religion. It sucks!, because no one is able to pronounce it correctly in Ireland and I have lot of trouble trying to figure out if they are calling me or saying something else.
